Federal regulations require all federal student loan borrowers to complete an exit loan counseling session and personal reference form prior to graduation, or when the student's enrollment status drops below half-time. The purpose of the counseling session is to inform you of your rights and responsibilities. During the counseling session you will receive a detailed listing of your loans, information regarding repayment options, and helpful tips for managing your loan debt. You will also be required to complete a form listing your current address, next of kin, and two references.
We offer four types of exit counseling; Large group sessions that are career specific, small group sessions, one-on-one counseling with a loan analyst and online. To get the most out of your counseling session, we strongly encourage you to attend a group session or take advantage of the individual counseling.

Small Group sessions will be held at the Student Loan Office in Conference room 232, 2127 Campus Drive, 2nd floor Annex Building. Use this link to sign up for a small group session.
Individual exit loan counseling sessions are conducted daily by the Student Loan Office from 9:00am- 4:00pm. The sessions usually take between 45 to 60 minutes. To schedule an individual counseling session or to check availability, please use our appointment calendar.
If you are unable to complete your exit counseling in-person, then you may complete it on-line. You will need to complete an exit counseling session for each type of federal loan you have. Please choose one or more of the following links to complete this requirement. Once you have completed your exit counseling, the information will then be sent to Duke and recorded on your student account.
