Entrance loan counseling is a one-time requirement for all first-time federal loan borrowers. It is an interactive counseling session which provides the borrower with informaton about their loan rights and responsibilities, and tips for developing a budget for managing their educational expenses.
If you are a first time borrower, in order to complete your entrance counseling you should attend the Understanding Student Loans group session. In this session, you will learn how to limit your borrowing, live on the resources you have, manage the repayment of your loans, and how to qualify to have your loans forgiven.

Online Entrance Counseling
The counseling sessions are provided on-line, and take about 20 minutes to complete. For all loans, they are part of the e-signature process for the promissory note.
(Once logged in to the studentloans.gov website, be sure to navigate to the correct counseling option):
Your loan funds will not disburse until your entrance counseling has been completed. Once you have completed your loan counseling session and have electronically signed your promissory note, Duke will receive confirmation within 24-48 hours and then disburse your loan funds.
