Change in NC Legislative Grant for Spring 2012 Term
The North Carolina State Legislature announced late this summer that the North Carolina Legislative Tuition Grant would be cut for the current aid year. Duke worked with the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) on how to package these grants when total amounts were unknown. NCSEAA recommended that the fall amount for the grant be left at $925 and the amount of the spring portion would be left open until there was more certainty as to the amount of funds available for the program. We have received notification from NCSEAA that the spring amount for the NC Legislative Tuition Grant (NCLTG) will be $695 for full-time students and a prorated amount for three-quarter-time students. Students will see the spring amount adjusted on ACES within the next week.
Students receiving institutional need based grant aid will have the $230 difference between the previous amount of the grant ($925) and the new amount of the grant replaced with institutional funds. There will be no net difference in the total aid package for students receiving institutional need-based aid.
Students who are not receiving institutional need-based grant aid or who did not apply for aid should realize that their bursar balance will be higher by the amount of the decrease in the NCLTG.
